It all started about 4 years ago when I interviewed for a job. My friend worked for his Dad in a family business. They were thinking about hiring a graphic artist/web designer. I had been living about 3 hours north and wanted to move back to St. George where I grew up. I was invited for an interview at the business. We spent a few minutes talking about my experience and education, then his Dad started talking about music. He knew I played the guitar and mentioned he wanted to start a band with Josh. He asked me if I played bass. I had never played one at the time.
Our goals were to create our own sound and produce an album. So we didn’t want to start covering all the old school bands songs. John had some songs he wrote in the 1980’s so we started there. Which is kind of funny, Austin likes to say that these songs were written before we were all born, so they had to sit around until we grew up and could record them.
But we now have expanded into this century with our writing. We just talk about an experience and come up with the sound and feel. For example, the song “Run Away” was in fact a true story about our drummer Josh. He really was dating a girl that put him in a dark place in life. They were just not a good combination together. Josh was feeling pressure to get married, but we all started to see the bigger picture and thus, a new song was born!
We record in the St. George area. We go into John Houston’s studio in Hurricane UT. The first time was pretty intimidating, none of us had ever done professional recording. But John is a crazy good sound engineer. All you have to do is play your stuff the best you can, he will elevate your song to a dimension you never thought possible. He hears things a normal human can’t hear.
Our album is 10 songs, we can hear it progressively get better as we got used to working in the studio. The songs are all fun and pretty good for a bunch of Southern Utah folks. We are already starting on our next album. In addition to music, we are making videos. That is an entire other art form. We do everything ourselves from scripting the shots to filming and editing. It is all for fun. We play out when we can, but for now we want to get more video work done and do marketing on various social media platforms.
